Bioplatforms Australia is strategically managed by a Board of Directors with a diverse set of skills.

Chairman

Mr John Grant

John Grant has over 20 years of experience in venture capital investing in technology based businesses, in Australia and internationally. Principally through Hambro- Grantham Limited (now Colonial First State Private Equity), a venture capital investment company which he jointly founded with Hambros Plc. of UK, in 1984. Following the sale of the business to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in 2000, he has been primarily engaged as a professional company director.

John’s previous business experience comprised investment banking (including 6 years as Managing Director and CEO of International Pacific Corporation Limited, now Rothschild Australia), management consulting and public accounting.

John’s current board appointments include: Biota Holdings Limited (Chair) and John Swire & Sons Pty Ltd. His previous boards include Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited, New Zealand Venture Investment Fund Limited, Colonial First State Private Capital Limited and Goodman Fielder Limited.

John was Chair of the recent Commonwealth of Australia Investment Review of Health and Medical Research. John is a Chartered Accountant and has a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University, New York. He is a member of Union Club, Royal Sydney Golf Club, The Cabbage Tree Club and Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club.


Director

Emeritus Professor John De Jersey

John de Jersey was until recently the Deputy Executive Dean of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences at The University of Queensland. After graduating with a PhD from The University of Queensland in biochemistry he lectured at the University of Sydney and undertook a postdoctoral research position at the Pennsylvania State University before returning to UQ to join the academic staff. Professor De Jersey is Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry at UQ and an Honorary Professor at Jilin University in China. His research focuses on protein chemistry and enzymology and currently includes an extensive study of the protein components of Australian snake venoms as potential human therapeutic agents. He has been actively involved in the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, including serving as President of the Society in 2001-2002, and is Secretary-General of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.





Director

Dr Les Trudzik

Les has been an advisor to public and private sector organisations for over fifteen years, assisting performance improvement through strategy and policy formulation, through business transformation and change programs, through review and design of core business processes, and through organisational performance measurement and modeling.

This work is founded on a Ph.D in operations research where Les first developed skills in applying mathematical and systems modeling to complex systems. Les has also developed a sound understanding of the important roles of people, technology, infrastructure and change management in enabling organisational performance and the achievement of strategic and operational objectives.

Les has a track record of applying strong conceptual thinking to solve organizational issues and as result has been an active member of numerous international thought leadership initiatives, including methodology development for Business Performance Improvement and ICT Strategy. Les is also collaborating on the development of approaches for measuring the value of intangibles such as innovation, intellectual capital, reputation and relationships, and identifying their contribution to organisational performance.

Les began his career in the utilities sector before taking on senior professional services roles. Prior to joining the Allen Consulting Group, Les held partner and executive director positions within KPMG and Bearing Point. In the past decade, Les has worked extensively with the Justice, Health, and Education sectors developing organizational strategies, conducting policy reviews and program evaluations, and performing organisational performance assessments.

Les holds current appointments as Chair of the Industry Advisory Group, Faculty ofScience at The University of Melbourne, is a Founding Member of the School Advisory Board for School of Network Computing at Monash University, and as a Member of the In2Science Advisory Board.
