The last decade has seen rapid and continuing advances in technologies supporting analysis of the molecular basis of biological systems. These technologies are enabling vast amounts of information to be generated and are promoting the emergence of new areas of research within the biological sciences.
The platforms and their associated areas of technologyh focus on different (but related) areas.
- Genomics Australia: Gene discovery, genome analysis and transcriptomics of systems in differing contexts (such as different tissues, populations and species) as well as through time;
- Proteomics Australia: The identification and function of proteins in cells, tissues, organs and/or organisms;
- Metabolomics Australia: The analysis of metabolites in cells, tissues, fluids, organs or organisms at a given point in time;
- Australian Bioinformatics Facility: Management, analysis and reporting of the large volumes of data being produced through the experimental platforms.
Bioplatforms Australia will provide a synergistic, integrated system of platform technologies that will deliver a holistic approach to systems biology research in Australia.
